About Me

Hey Everyone! I’m Jillian Fowler and I was born and raised in a beautiful small town called Boulder, Colorado. I moved here about five years ago and have fallen in love with this beautiful city. I mean how could you not? I have always dreamed of living in a small surf town and seeking adventure, which I have definitely achieved here. I moved here completely on my own and have grown so much as the strong individual am now. I went to SBCC without any clue of what I wanted to study and what majors I would seek interest in. I instantly took a broad range of classes to weigh out all of my options and what would determine my future career possibilities. When I finally landed in my first Communication class, I instantly fell in love with it and knew this was the major I have been seeking all along!

When I started looking into Universities all I wanted was something similar to my amazing experience at SBCC, such as small classrooms and having the opportunity of having connections with my professors, which I think is truly vital. I suddenly came across Antioch University and I couldn’t have been anymore excited about this future endeavor I was about to experience. Being a Communication and Media Major, I hope to achieve a career I am passionate about and a future where I am truly happy. I have always been very interested in event planning and working with tons of people in general. I recently helped out with the Santa Barbara Wine Festival and absolutely loved it! I was only supposed to help out with one day, but they ended up really wanting me to help out all three days, which I took as a major compliment and knew this was something I am good at. I’m currently looking into internships where I would be helping with different events in our Santa Barbara area, which I am very excited about.

I very much enjoyed our readings this week! I especially enjoyed reading the rhetoric comics because it a crucial key on how we write and communicate with others in our everyday lives. Being a communication major, I know how important it is being an effective communicator and how it can lead to so many opportunities in life. I also was very intrigued reading about Academic Argument because this will be a vital source for this class. Knowing how to compel your argument and personal opinion is so important on any topic, especially when your writing is comprehensible by everyone.

Here’s a photo of me snowboarding, as I was a competitive slopestyle and half pipe rider most of my life. I look forward to getting to know you all!

  1. Hi Jillian!
I have heard great things about Colorado but I've never been. I'm from Sweden so I know everything there is to know about the cold, I never enjoyed it that much so I can totally understand the decision to come to SoCal. I hope we get to know each other better during this class!
